John Denver sang: Take me home, Country Roads.
Simon Garfunkel sang: Homeward Bound.
Michael Bublé gave us I Wanna Go Home.
Andrea Bocelli was responsible for Time to Say Goodbye.
There is a very long list of songs that deal with going home, then there are those who do not know whether they are coming or going. The Hollies couldn’t tell their bottom from the top. Elvis was All Shook Up…Uhuhuuu! Led Zeppelin was Dazed and Confused.
All of the above, just about sums up where Colin and I find ourselves. After thinking about a Plan B in 2019, to travelling down to the Western Cape end of 2020, to finally buying property in 2021. Then, the big pack up at the end of 2021 (the result of which resembled the German retreat from Russia), arriving in Botrivier until a Storm with No Name (nope, no Katrine or Hercules for us) washed us all the way to Hermanus, here we are: Packing for what I hope is our last move. I contacted the same company that moved us twice before – it makes it easier, you see. No need to go through a lengthy inventory list to request a quotation. All I said was: exactly what you moved the previous time, maybe just bump the number of boxes up with another ten. Ten boxes, Colin asked? Are you not being a bit over the top, he wanted to know. And here we are, eight of the extra ten boxes packed, and the cupboards are still full of everything we have collected these past 3 years. The rest of course, can now come out of storage. It is going to be quite an experience unpacking all my treasures, at the same time wondering what made me pack it in the first place. I will let you know in the next Cape Crawl.
So, about the next Cape Crawl, do not expect anything next week. Next week, this time, I may be sitting on the floor (which is still covered in building dust) looking out a window still with its plastic coating, probably looking at a baboon, looking at me. Ready (which we are not) or Not (which we are), Clarence Drive, here we come. No time is ever a good time and no turning back.
But, until then, guess what? I have picked up my old argument with Eskom, who in their wisdom has decided to deactivate our electricity meter. Why, you ask? I have no idea. Eskom needs no reason. They do because they can. And also, because there must be some fee attached to it all yet again.
I was asked yesterday: would we do it again (meaning building a project like this up from the ground). My immediate answer was Hell, No! But then, we have learnt so many lessons in the past few years, so then why waste a good education?
I am going to conclude with Willie Nelson, as he sings me out with: On The Road Again.
Next time we chat, it will be from Betty’s Bay.
Happy packing and relocating to Betty’s!
Happy packing & unpacking, then finding the correct places for things & moving them again to a more perfect place. So glad you have got to this exciting time in your adventure. Looking forward to the stories of the new coffee drinking spots on your property & Colin’s photos showing us the beauty to make us jealous
