Expected and unexpected

Disclaimer: This is not to guilt trip any one of you to call or write me, it is just a reflection on what could, and could not be expected, when you move away from your circle of friends. Some years back, I opened a shop. When you open a shop, or start a business, there […]

Strolling through Hermanus

The longest town name in the world is: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. It is a 1 000-foot hill near the township of Porangahau, in the north of New Zealand. Our closest town to Botrivier is Hermanus. The town was originally called Hermanuspietersfontein, and Google tells me that it was shortened to Hermanus in 1902, as the name was […]

The Norwegian band, A-Ha, recorded a song called “The Sun always shines on TV” back in the fabulous ‘80s. The meaning behind it is more of a reference to how this world is not always perfect and that life does not always turn out the way expected. Some of my friends have commented to me […]

In the past week, I have been asked why I do not include photos of my daily walks. Now this can either mean that some of you are interested, or you want proof that apples do indeed grow on trees. Either way, I did think it would be a good idea. Trouble is just this: […]

My younger sister moved to Dubai in 2007. After 11 years in Dubai, she then moved on to the USA. I remember her telling me that for the first year in Dubai, she would wake up in the morning, and the moment her feet touched the floor next to the bed, her first thought would […]

We seldom do the stay up for the midnight thing at New Years’. We like to go to sleep at our usual time, and wake up the next morning, at our usual time. I think the last time we stayed up to see the new year in, was at the 2000 turn of century, but […]

Once we had made the decision (or rather the decision was made for us) that we would be moving to Betty’s Bay, we had to break the news to our family. Apart from our 2 sons, we also have a little furry son, a black and white cat called Domino. We were so excited to […]

Doing the Cape Crawl. One step at a time.

Colin came upon an interesting term a few days ago: The Cape Crawl. Remember some years back when folks were “packing for Perth” and immigrating to Australia?  A new buzz word lately is the “semi-gration” of people from inland to the coast, most of them to the Western Cape, well that was described in one of the little local news papers as the Cape Crawl.

And so here we are, having done just that: The Cape Crawl.
